Our History

History of Conlon Moving and Storage

Conlon Moving & Storage was founded in 1885 as F.E. Conlon Storage of Pawtucket, Rhode Island.  The company’s primary function was to transport household goods and pianos.  However, if an item fit on the horse-drawn wagon, John Conlon would move it!

In 1935, the company received Interstate Commerce commission authority for nine states.  Also, in that same year, Conlon became an agent for Grey Van Lines.  Over the proceeding years, Conlon grew and expanded.  In order to provide their customers with the level of service they have grown to expect the company changed van line affiliation to American Red Ball in 1955.

As the company grew and prospered, the name of the company was changed to Conlon Moving & Storage.  Not only did the company have a reputation as the area’s premier household goods moving company, its name, as a commercial mover was second to none.  To this day, the company enjoys an impeccable reputation as the area’s largest commercial mover.

History of Moving Storage CompaniesEver striving to provide the best service possible, Conlon Moving & Storage became an agent for Global Van Lines in 1967.  With this new affiliation, Conlon saw a tremendous surge in volume.  Two short years later, Conlon broke ground for a new state of the art warehouse on York Avenue in Pawtucket.  Even with this new twelve thousand square foot warehouse, the company still retained its original warehouse on Sterry Street in Pawtucket.

In order to remain the area’s premier moving company, the decision was made in 1984 to become an agent for United Van Lines.  Through this new affiliation, Conlon Moving & Storage could offer their customers that personalized attention, which has always been our trademark, along with the resources of the nation’s largest van line.

Accomodating our customers' ever increasing requests for additional services, we acquired an additional warehouse and office complex.  This new thirty-five thousand square foot complex in Seekonk, Massachusetts now gave the company three facilities in the greater metropolitan Providence area. An additional 15,000 square foot distribution facility was added in the year 2000.

To support these locations, Conlon Moving & Storage operates aMovers and Storage Containers Massachusetts fleet of state of the art tractors/trailers, straight trucks, and specialty service vans.  These assets allow us to offer in excess of fifty thousand square feet of storage capability, and a transportation system even John Conlon would have envied.

Fostering John Conlon’s philosophy, the company is now managed by the fourth generation of theConlon Moving & Storage Massachusetts Conlon family. The past 125 years of continuous service has been a rewarding experience.  The new millennium will bring challenges we never thought existed.  However, we have positioned ourselves to provide that level of service that our customers new and old have grown to know and appreciate.
